Hori Hori Knife

I am quite disappointed with my hori hori knife, given the price. I find that the wood on the handle is not very secure and refined, and I was surprised that it isn't sealed in any way to prevent breakdown. I also feel like it is very heavy for a hand tool. The weight for size and level of sturdiness does not impress me. I am regretting my purchase unfortunately. It has not been used at all, could I return it for refund?

I had heard of the Hori Hori knife from a metal detecting friend who said it was an ideal tool. Until I saw one in my Community Garden, I didn't realise how sharp and well made they are. There was a special offer on them from Mind and Soil at Christmas, so I treated myself to one. It will get use in the garden as well as metal detecting. It certainly has the 'cool factor'.

I really haven’t given it a big ‘test drive’ yet because of the weather, but with my limited use of the hori I know it will be a game changer.

I have not used it in my garden yet. But I am expecting great things

I love my hori hori knife. From cutting roots as I transplanted my perennials to measuring how deep to plant my spring bulbs, this has been a very handy tool. I wish I had bought this sooner.

I ordered a Hori Hori knife shortly after learning about Mind and Soil, and I loved how easy it was to work with, and particularly pleased that you could measure depths with it. Now I have two, and between my husband and me, it cuts our planting time in half! Also, I was quite impressed on how well it is made.

The knife has been great for easily cutting long roots from invading blackberries and wild roses. The leather sheath is good quality.

The Hori Hori knife is a great tool to work with! The blade is narrow (unlike garden trowels) and it has the convenient measurement (in inches and millimeter) engraved on the blade. It's great for planting seeds. I used it for the first time for planting garlic, it was just the perfect tool for it. The Hori Hori knife comes with a beautiful leather knife pouch. (I put varnish finishing on the wooden handle to make it look finished). Linda

Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this tool! The handle is beautiful wood and the blade is made with heavy weight steel that is so dang SHARP!! We've nicknamed this tool the "Garden Sword"!

Hi - it was a gift for a friend, and she hasn't used it yet (winter in Edmonton), but I love the design of it. (I had purchased another hori hori knife elsewhere & it was very big & had a plastic handle and plastic sheath, so not nearly as nice as this one.)

I haven't had time to do much with my Hori Hori knife, just planted my garlic before the snow. But I am impressed with it's size and solid feel. I can't wait for spring to try it out more! I was super happy with the ease of ordering and the speed of delivery. Great job Mind and Soil!

My wife was so grateful for this great multipurpose tools. She’s been gardening and teaching a gardening class for about two years now and anything that helps is always useful!

My hori hori knife is the first tool I grab on the way to the garden. The second are the snips. And I hardly ever need anything else! It's great for adding amendments (like worm castings) to new plants. I can use it to easily "tickle" the little weeds in the no-dig beds. It is great for digging out slightly bigger weeds that have grown where the soil does get dug. And of course for planting in seedlings and moving smaller plants from one spot to another. A really good investment!

Rec'd hori hori for my birthday from dearest of friends. Took no time at all before I was wielding new HH in my glorious allotment garden, and first used it to cut down my artichokes. WInter prep requires that I cut them down to short stalks and layer all the foliage around for winter protection. All went well except for a small chunk sliced from my thumb, think it was added to the foliage around arties. Lesson learned and now with new found respect for HH I use it all the time. Advisory about the blade might be useful to other newbies. Love my HH

This is one of the best tool that I bought for the garden. REally helped me digging my garlic, potatoes and carots. IT has also a vey nice aesthetic and its very good quality.

The Hori Hori knife is great. I've used it to transplant plant babies, cut out weeds, plant a stray bulb or two and even edge along my garden. The handle feels good in my hands and I'm grateful for the protector & the leather sleeve. It's a quality item which will last for years. A great addition to any gardener's arsenal of tools.

I love my new Hori Knife! Thought I would skip my bike ride last weekend to do some gardening, and set out to transplant some dense Hosta plants and my knife did not disappoint I used to use a trowel or spade shovel, not any more. This little knife can cut through densely packed roots in a breeze. I also used it for digging out weeds, cutting small branches from bushes, and it is very handy for digging holes and transplanting flower pots!

The knife is very easy to handle for a small hand like mine. You can easily cut tge bags open with the serrated side, scoop the 4-4-4 out of the bag and sprinkle on the soil and mix it. ABC's it comes with a leather sheath to protect it when it it's not in use. Recommend it to everyone.
